Future-Proofing our Youth
Youth were hit hard by COVID. Virtual school and physical distancing prevented them from developing key social skills from conflict resolution to emotional regulation and how to build social capital. All of this took a toll on their mental health. And the truth is: They haven’t recovered. Whether they’re trying to go to post-secondary school or position themselves for a career, youth are facing unprecedented challenges with less developed skills than generations before them. But there is hope and a clear ask of all of us—especially employers. What you also need to know is that today’s youth—particularly Black and racialized youth—are considering entrepreneurship as a way to future-proof themselves in an increasingly expensive city.
