Gender identity, sexual diversity and health equity in public health
This webinar will be delivered in English with simultaneous French interpretation and live closed captioning.
Public health has a critical role to play in stopping hate, violence, and harm against the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Action on health equity for people with diverse gender and sexual identities starts with using inclusive language in practice, research, and policy, providing gender-affirming care, and addressing stigma, discrimination, and other structural and social determinants of health.
Join us as we learn from a panel of folks working actively in the 2SLGBTQI+ space to support community and public health action on inequities related to gender and sexual identity. This webinar will review foundational concepts and practical applications to support the Canadian public health field to understand and act on improving health inequities for the 2SLGBTQI+ populations.
In this webinar, panelists will:
- explore how structural and social determinants of health intersect with gender identity and sexual diversity;
- illustrate the importance of pronouns and explore how to incorporate inclusive language and care into practice, research, and policy; and
- identify practical examples of how public health can improve health equity for sexual and gender diverse populations.
Who should attend?
This webinar will be of interest to anybody looking to build individual and organizational capacity to improve health inequities for 2SLGBTQI+ populations, including but not limited to public health practitioners, decision-makers, policymakers, community organizations, educators, and researchers.
